Workshop Insights: Advancing the Industry 5.0 Assessment Framework in Bilbao

October 16, 2025

On October 16, 2025, the PROSPECTS 5.0 consortium held an in-person workshop in Bilbao, Spain, dedicated to discussing key challenges encountered during the implementation of the Industry 5.0 Assessment Framework (I5.AF) across the project’s use cases. The session was part of the project’s General Assembly hosted in Bilbao.

The workshop aimed to gather feedback from partners on the limitations identified during the analysis of the data from the I5.AF use cases implementation, which highlighted where companies misinterpreted what was desired.

The session was divided into issues related to KPI calculation and challenges linked to the scoring mechanism used to evaluate companies’ alignment with I5.0 principles and their level of implementation of I5.0 practices. Each issue was introduced with a recap of the terms and definitions, followed by an explanation of the problem and several proposed solutions. Participants then engaged in open discussions, providing to get insights and viewpoints from their real-world experiences and needs.

Four PROSPECTS 5.0 use case companies took part in the workshop:

Additional viewpoints from other use cases were provided by the respective use case facilitator present in the workshop.

The workshop generated rich and dynamic discussions, emphasizing both the strengths and limitations of each proposed solution while also raising new concerns. Agreement on a solution was challenging, reflecting the difficulty of measuring strategic alignment and operational implementation of I5.0 principles.

To ensure that all perspectives were captured, the consortium launched an online survey after the workshop. It incorporated insights from the in-person session and included an explanatory video outlining the issues and proposed solutions. Collected responses will support the refinement of the I5.AF and the update of existing use case data. Once these updates are complete, the consortium will conduct a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results from the 14 projects’ use cases, providing a consolidated view of performance by size and sector.

This workshop and survey marked an important step in refining the I5.AF and once again demonstrated the value of shared expertise to achieve effective solutions. As we move into the next phases of the project, the consortium remains dedicated to transforming these challenges into opportunities, strengthening the competitiveness and I5.0 maturity of the European industrial landscape.

We thank all participants for their contributions and look forward to upcoming achievements!
